EFFECT OF FUNCTIONAL PALATABILITY ENHANCERS WITH MILK CHEESE FLAVORS ON FEED INTAKE AND GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF WEANLING PIGLETS

This study investigated effect of supplementation of functional palatability enhancers with milk cheese flavors to creep diet on growth performance of piglets. Crossbred sows and their litters (n=12; 12 piglets/litter) were pre-arranged randomly to two groups fed with creep diets supplemented with or without 2 kg/ton Luctarom Gold containing sweetener, umami and milk cheese flavors from d10 to d24. After weaned on d25, the piglets were continuing on the experimental diets for additional 7 days as post-weanling period until d31. They were then fed with starter diets supplemented with or without a traditional Luctarom with milk cheese flavors until d60. From the study, it was found that supplementation of the Luctarom Gold with milk cheese flavors to the creep diet during the creep and the post-weanling periods resulted in an increased (P=0.013) feed intake and a larger (P<0.01) average daily gain during the starter feeding period as well as a larger (P<0.01) final body weight on d60. In conclusion, the supplementations of Luctarom Gold with milk cheese flavors in the creep diet followed by traditional Luctarom in the starter diet improved growth performance of weanling pigs, which might be achieved through improving intestinal health of the piglets. tech.service@fad.com
